Borneo Travels
THE SABAH FIELD GUIDE

Start in Sabah.
Go at a better pace.

Place guides, route answers and booking notes for planning Sabah with room for the road, the river and the weather.

Sabah is a region, not a weekend attraction list. Kota Kinabalu, the highlands, Sandakan, the Kinabatangan, Danum Valley and Semporna each take different transport and different time. Begin with the trip you want, then choose the stops that fit.

Build the route around one anchor

For a first Sabah trip, choose a main draw before adding transfers. A city-and-islands visit starts from Kota Kinabalu. A mountain visit centers on Kinabalu Park and Kundasang. For an east-coast wildlife trip, make space for Sandakan, Sepilok and a multi-night river or forest stay. Semporna is a separate boat and diving cluster reached through Tawau.

These guides distinguish our suggested pace from what a park or operator requires. Each links to local sources for current prices, permits, facilities and schedules. Wildlife sightings are never promised; use the sources on each page to verify details that affect a booking.
